Standard or custom sinks: endless options

The options for kitchen sinks are as wide and varied as a homeowner's imagination. Sinks can be made from many materials, including fiberglass, stainless steel, porcelain or china, glass, marble, soapstone or even wood. Sinks are available in dozens of styles and variations, but the most popular include pedestal sinks, molded-in, drop-in, under-mounted, and farmhouse or apron types. Custom jobs can include specialty sinks, such as those with built-in soap holders and other amenities.
Kitchen sinks can start at $40 for stainless steel and $100 for a basic white sink. Designer models can range from $500 to $2,500 or more. Basic faucets can cost between $25 and $75 but go as high as $600 or more for designer options.
Basic pedestal sinks for the bathroom can start at $50 but go as high as $1,000 or more for custom models. Expect to pay $20 to $70 for basic bathroom faucets, and up to $800 or more for customized items or unusual materials.
